Facing the board
January 7, 2010
For students who are enrolled in board-courses like Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapy and Nursing, getting a diploma is not the total accomplishment of education. Passing the board exam and getting a hold of a license grants complete triumph. And of course, having a stable work after it.
In the real world, there are many preparations needed before taking the board exam like enrolling in a review center, reading review materials and answering questionnaires. But there’s no greater preparation for the board exam than a college life well-spent and dedicated to studying.
Most people believe that taking a licensure exam is very hard, but people don’t usually become aware of the point that what makes the exam really difficult is that they lack the necessary preparations.
To a certain extent, it’s definitely true.
There are no short-cuts to success in the board exam (unless you are a certified genius). Few months of review after graduation is not an assurance. Relying on review centers is not more than enough. It can’t even make us 100% confident. Apparently, it could help, but it’s no guarantee.
Cramming is not an answer. And cramming does not work (again, unless you are a certified genius). It will most likely cause you to have mental block if you’re forcing yourself to remember what you are studying immediately.
You will never have as much of what you harvest while you were in our stay in the college in any means.
Fine edification is definitely needed if you want to pass. Unfortunately, some do not yet know how to value every single second that a teacher speaks in front of the class. Well, it’s inescapable at times to get bored; however, it is just a matter of will-power. If you are genuinely determined to learn, then you should have patience, patience and again, patience.
You must be actively involved in your own learning by attending all the meetings and reading assigned topics before coming to class. During lectures, you are encouraged to ask questions, take notes and participate in the flow of the discussion. Remember this is your career. Your good educational foundation is your strong ally in the future!
There may be those who didn’t have satisfactory learning while they were in their school run and had merely depended on the review centers. In spite of that, they still managed to pass. Nevertheless, chances are too little; it’s probably their prayers that pulled them through.
If one can evidently associate self to the outcome of studying, it becomes easier to sit down and face the board exam papers. You won’t be scratching your head trying to read the mind of the one who made the question, but will instead know exactly the best answer.
You should not aim only for degree, you should aim more of it, and you should aim for a license. You should not be satisfied having a name extension of RT, PT or MT. It is better with the word “REGISTERED”, RRT, RN, RMT or RPT. Isn’t that truly better to hear? (evidently, almost all employers are hiring only those who are with license nowadays)
Studying and taking the board exams are too closely related.
All over again, preparing for the board exam is tantamount to a meaningful tertiary level life. Keep in mind, despite high intelligence, there had to be a set of secret keys to the board examinations that would open the door of success for the test takers.
What is the secret of passing the yet to come board exam? Focus on your study and positive thinking. You have no reasons to be afraid of failing if you really worked hard for it.
That’s it. Your future self is standing, unseen, watching over you at all times. Needless to say, do your best; you cannot do more than that.
